คำแปลของบทสนทนาในคลิปเรียนภาษาอังกฤษทาง YouTube #N31

ตอนที่ N31: การฝึกแก้ประโยคภาษาอังกฤษที่คนไทยมักพูดผิดให้ถูก Grammar

P: Jim, are you ready to continue? (จิม, คุณพร้อมหรือยังที่จะมาคุยกันต่อ)

J: I am. (ผมพร้อมแล้ว)

P: I'm going to throw questions at you.  This time, eleven questions because 11 is my lucky number. (ผมกำลังจะยิงคำถามรัวใส่คุณแล้วนะ ครั้งนี้มีสิบเอ็ดคำถามเพราะว่าเลขสิบเอ็ดเป็นเลขนำโชคของผม)

J: Very good! (ดีมากเลย)

P: Before we get to the questions, can I ask you how tall you are? (ก่อนที่เราจะเข้าสู่คำถาม ผมขอถามคุณว่าคุณสูงเท่าไหร่จะได้หรือเปล่าครับ)

J: I am 6-foot, 4 (หรือ I'm 6 feet, 4 inches tall. / I'm 6-4.), which in centimeters may be ......... (ผมสูง 6 ฟุต – 4 นิ้ว ซึ่งถ้าแปลงเป็นเซนติเมตรก็น่าจะเป็น ....)

P: Two meters. (สองเมตร)

J: Yeah, about 2 meters, I guess. (ใช่ครับ ประมาณสองเมตร ผมก็เดาว่าประมาณนั้น)

P: Jim is about 2 meters tall.  Would you stand up?  And then, your head would touch the ceiling? (จิมสูงประมาณสองเมตร คุณจะลองยืนดูหน่อยไหม และดูว่าศีรษะคุณจะชนเพดานหรือเปล่า)

J: Not quite.  But, I can reach up and touch it easily. (ก็ไม่ถึงขนาดนั้น แต่ผมสามารถยืดมือไปแตะมันได้ไม่ยากเลย)

P: I know.  Let's get to our questions. (ผมรู้ เรามาเข้าสู่คำถามกันเถอะ)

P: Again, I have to tell you.  I have to tell the viewers that Jim has never seen my questions. (อีกครั้งหนึ่งนะครับ ผมต้องบอกคุณ ... ผมต้องบอกคุณผู้ชมว่าจิมไม่เคยเห็นคำถามของผมเลย)

P: The first one: "You drive very good." (ข้อแรก: คุณขับรถดีมาก) (เขียนผิด Grammar)

J: The more correct version of that would be: "You drive (very) well." (แบบที่จะถูกมากกว่าคือ ใช้คำว่า well แทนคำว่า good ซึ่งก็จะได้คำแปลเหมือนกันคือ “คุณขับรถได้ดีมากเลย”)

J: However, if you were driving me and you crashed the car, I would have to say, "You don't drive very well." (แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ถ้าคุณเกิดขับรถไปชนอะไรเข้า ผมก็จะต้องพูดว่า “คุณขับรถได้ไม่ดีมากๆเลย”)

P: (แซว) driving me crazy (เป็นสำนวน) = ทำให้หงุดหงิดและโมโห, ยั่วยวนให้เกิดอารมณ์ทางเพศ

J: I'd say, "You are one bad driver." (ผมก็จะพูดว่า “คุณคือคนขับรถที่ขับได้แย่มาก”)

P: You can say so many things. (คุณสามารถพูดได้หลายอย่างเลย)

J: Yes! (ใช่)

P: The second one: "I would like to discuss about hurricanes and their severity." (ข้อสอง: ผมอยากจะถกประเด็นเรื่องพายุเฮอริเคนและความรุนแรงของมัน) (ประโยคนี้ผิด Grammar)

P: Let me translate it to my viewers.  Let me read my sentence again. (ขอผมแปลให้ผู้ชมฟังก่อนนะ ขอผมอ่านประโยคนี้อีกครั้งหนึ่งนะ)

J: I would omit "about".  I would say, "I would like to discuss hurricanes and their severity." (ผมจะตัดคำว่า about ทิ้งไปนะ ผมจะพูดแบบที่ถูกต้องว่า I would like to discuss hurricanes and their severity.)

P: I agree with you whole-heartedly. (ผมเห็นด้วยกับคุณแบบหมดใจเลย)

P: The third one: "Can you explain about your house rules again?" (ข้อสาม: คุณช่วยอธิบายกฎระเบียบการใช้ที่พักของคุณอีกครั้งได้ไหม)

J: Again, I would omit "about".  So, "Can you explain your house rules again?"  Or, probably more correctly and casually, "Can you tell me about your house rules (again)?" (อันนี้ก็เหมือนกัน ผมก็จะตัดคำว่า about ทิ้งไป เป็น Can you explain your house rules again? หรือบางทีอาจจะถูกต้องกว่าหรือฟังดูสบายๆกว่า ถ้าพูดว่า Can you tell me about your house rules again?)

P: The next one: "I saw many gecko in your garden." (ข้อต่อไป ผมเห็นตุ๊กแกหลายตัวเลยในสวนของคุณ)

J: That would be a statement of observation. (ประโยคที่คุณอ่านมานี่ถือว่าเป็นประโยคที่มาจากการนั่งสังเกตบ้านของผม แก้ประโยคของคุณให้ถูกต้องก็คอ: I saw many geckos in your garden.)

P: Would you repeat your answer? (ช่วยพูดคำตอบของคุณอีกครั้งได้ไหมครับ)

J: I just thought, if you only saw one gecko, you would say, "I saw a gecko in your garden."  If you saw two or more, plural, it would be, "I saw many geckos in your garden." (ผมคิดว่า ถ้าคุณเห็นตุ๊กแกแค่หนึ่งตัว คุณก็อาจจะพูดว่า “ผมเห็นตุ๊กแกตัวนึงในสวนของคุณ” แต่ถ้าคุณเห็นสองตัวหรือมากกว่านั้นเป็นพหูพจน์ ประโยคมันก็จะเป็น I saw many geckos in your garden.)

P: Thank you. (ขอบคุณมากครับ)

P: The next one is, "You and me are good friends." (ข้อต่อไปคือ “คุณและผมเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีต่อกัน”)

J: That's charming. (แหม มันฟังดูน่าหลงใหลได้ปลื้มจริงๆเลย)

P: It's incorrect.  What is the correct version? (ประโยคนี้มันผิดไวยากรณ์นะ แบบที่ถูกต้องเป็นยังไงครับ)

J: Would you repeat that?  It would be better to say, "You and I are good friends." (คุณช่วยบอกซ้ำอีกทีหนึ่งได้ไหมครับ มันจะดีกว่าที่จะพูดว่า You and I are good friends.)

P: The next one is, "I ride this bicycle go to work every day." (ข้อต่อไปคือ “ผมขี่จักรยานไปทำงานทุกวัน”)

J: The more correct version or the best way to say that would be, "I ride this bicycle every day." or, "I ride this bicycle daily." (แบบที่น่าจะถูกต้องกว่าหรือวิธีที่ดีที่สุดที่จะพูดประโยคนั้นก็คือ I ride this bicycle every day. หรือไม่ก็ I ride this bicycle daily.)

P: There is a part that talks about going to work. (มันยังมีส่วนที่พูดถึงเรื่องการไปทำงานด้วยนะ)

J: Oh, to work, yes!  I ride this (my) bicycle to work every day. (เอ่อ ใช่ ต้องมีคำว่า to work เข้าไปด้วย)

P: "Every day" as two separate words because it's an adverb.  When "everyday" acts as one word, it's an adjective, like, "Everyday Low Prices". (คำว่า “every day” แบบที่เขียนเป็นสองคำแยกกันเนี่ย ก็เพราะว่ามันเป็น Adverb หรือคำวิเศษณ์นั่นเอง แต่ถ้า everyday เขียนติดกันเป็นคำเดียว มันจะเป็น Adjective หรือคำคุณศัพท์ อย่างเช่นในวลีที่ว่า Every Low Prices – แปลว่า “ราคาสินค้าขายถูกทุกวัน”)

P: The next one, which is the seventh one: "Do you like pet?" (ข้อต่อไปซึ่งเป็นข้อที่เจ็ด “คุณชอบสัตว์เลี้ยงไหม”)

J: More correctly, it should be, "Do you like pets?" (ที่ถูกต้องกว่า มันควรจะเป็นว่า Do you like pets?)

P: You put an S. (คุณเติมตัว S ลงไป)

J: Yes! (ใช่)

P: I've been explaining it in Thai because I needed my viewers to understand how to use count nouns and non-count nouns properly.  Because in Thailand, when I was young, I was taught English this conventional way, which was not correct.  So, when I grew up, when I was in my MBA school, I found myself making mistakes all the time.  So, I was not happy about myself.  So, I decided to throw away all the old knowledge that I had accumulated all my life.  And then, I started observing how my American friends would speak because I wanted to understand it correctly.  Then, I have developed my own way of teaching.  That's what I've done.

P: The next one is, "I bought chair yesterday." (ข้อต่อไปคือ “ฉันซื้อเก้าอี้มาเมื่อวานนี้)

J: I bought tair?  (ฉันซื้อ “แทร์” เหรอ)

P: Because it's ungrammatical, that's why he doesn't understand. (เพราะว่ามันผิด Grammar ไง จิมเขาก็เลยไม่เข้าใจที่ผมพูด)

J: All right, now I understand what you're trying to say. (โอเค โอเค, ผมเข้าใจแล้วว่าคุณกำลังพยายามจะพูดอะไร)

P: What should be the correct way? (วิธีพูดที่ถูกต้องควรเป็นอย่างไรครับ)

J: Confusion in language is part of life. (ความสับสนในเรื่องการใช้ภาษาถือเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการดำรงชีวิต)

J: It would be better if you said, "I bought a chair yesterday." (มันจะดีกว่านะถ้าคุณจะพูดว่า “I bought a chair yesterday.” คือเติม a เข้าไปด้วย)

P: Or "I bought some chairs yesterday." (หรือว่าใส่ some เข้าไปหน้าคำว่า chairs ก็ได้เป็น I bought some chairs yesterday.)

J: Yeah, plural!  Or, you could say the number.  If you bought two, you would say I bought two chairs yesterday. (ใช่ ถือเป็นพหูพจน์ไง หรือคุณอาจจะใส่ตัวเลขเข้าไปข้างหน้าคำว่า chairs ก็ได้ เช่นถ้าคุณซื้อมาสองตัวคุณก็พูด I bought two chairs yesterday.)

P: I explained to the viewers that it could confuse the other person when you're not using countable nouns properly.  Like when I said "I bought chair.", I pronounced the word "chair" very clearly and you

didn't understand me because I was using it in an improper way.

P: The next one is (the ninth one), "My mother have plant shop and she sell plant." (ข้อต่อไปซึ่งเป็นข้อเก้า “แม่ของฉันมีร้านขายต้นไม้ และหล่อนก็ขายต้นไม้”)

J: It would be better to say, "My mother has a plant shop and she sells plants. (มันจะดีกว่านะที่จะพูดว่า My mother has a plant shop and she sells plants.)

P: You corrected many parts of my sentence. (คุณแก้ประโยคผมตั้งหลายส่วนแน่ะ)

J: Sorry about that. (ขอโทษด้วยครับ)

P: The tenth, "My daughter keep her diving equipments in the shade." (ข้อสิบ “ลูกสาวของฉันเก็บอุปกรณ์ดำน้ำเอาไว้ในร่ม”)

J: I didn't know you had a daughter. (ผมไม่ยักกะรู้ว่าคุณมีลูกสาวด้วย)

P: I don't.  This is just an example.  Listen again. (ผมไม่มี มันแค่ตัวอย่างเฉยๆ)

J: It would be better to say, "My daughter keeps her dive equipment in the shade." (มันจะดีกว่านะถ้าจะพูดว่า My daughter keeps her dive equipment in the shade.)

P: You corrected several parts.  Jim's answer is ....... (คุณก็แก้หลายส่วนอีกแล้ว คำตอบของจิมคือ .....)

P: Would you repeat your answer? (คุณช่วยบอกคำตอบอีกทีหนึ่งได้ไหมครับ)

J: My daughter keeps her dive equipment in the shade.  I don't think any American would say equipments.  Equipment in itself is somewhat plural.  Or, it could be singular, too.  But, it's plural in this instance. (ทวนประโยคที่ถูกต้องคือ My daughter keeps her dive equipment in the shade.

P: The last one, "My new house need some furnitures." (ข้อสุดท้ายแล้ว “บ้านใหม่ของฉันยังขาดเฟอร์นิเจอร์จำนวนหนึ่ง”)

J: That should be, "My new house needs some furniture." (มันควรจะเป็นว่า My new house needs some furniture.)

P: Jim, I really appreciate your help, your participation. (จิม ผมรู้สึกซาบซึ้งในบุญคุณของคุณและการที่คุณมาร่วมออกคลิปวิดีโอกับผมจริงๆ)

J: It's been fun. (ผมสนุกดีครับ)

P: How much do I owe you? (ผมติดหนี้คุณคิดเป็นเงินเท่าไหร่เนี่ย)

J: Only, maybe, 20- or 25,000 American dollars will do the trick. (แค่สองหมื่นหรือสองหมื่นห้าพันดอลล่าร์สหรัฐฯ ก็น่าจะชดใช้หมดครับ)

P: You're so kind.  I will work here and pay back what I owe you. (คุณใจดีจังเลย ผมจะทำงานที่นี่เพื่อชดใช้สิ่งที่ผมเป็นหนี้คุณก็แล้วกันนะ)

P: That's it for now. (จบแค่นี้นะครับ)

J: Piboon, my future slave! (พิบูลย์ – ว่าที่ “ทาส” ของผม)

P: Would you show us to your garden and swimming pool?  Let's go. (คุณจะพาเราไปดูสวนและสระว่ายน้ำของคุณหน่อยได้ไหมครับ)

J: Do you want to now?  Walk around? (คุณอยากไปดูตอนนี้เลยเหรอ เดินดูรอบๆเหรอ)

P: First of all, let me show you how tall Jim is.  You are my giant. (ก่อนอื่น ผมจะให้คุณดูว่าจิมเขาตัวสูงแค่ไหน คุณคือยักษ์ของผม)

J: They grow as big in California. (ในรัฐแคลิฟอร์เนีย พวกผู้คนเขาก็ตัวสูงใหญ่กันแบบนี้แหละ)

P: Jim, could you tell us something about your swimming pool? (จิม คุณช่วยบอกอะไรเกี่ยวกับสระว่ายน้ำของคุณหน่อยได้ไหม)

J: This is the centerpiece of our tropical backyard.  The lovely pool is warm year-round.  It's heated by the sunshine and we work very hard to keep it clean and nice for our guests. (นี่เป็นส่วนที่เด่นที่สุดของสวนหลังบ้านที่เป็นสวนแบบเขตร้อนชื้น สระว่ายน้ำที่น่ารักนี้น้ำมันอุ่นสบายตลอดปี มันโดนแดดส่องให้อุ่นแล้วเราก็ต้องลงแรงเยอะมากในการบำรุงรักษาให้มันสะอาดแล้วก็ดูดีสำหรับแขกที่มาพักบ้านเรา)

J: The backyard is full of indigenous local plants.  Probably, many of them you can recognize from Thailand, as well.  It seems that tropical plants are common all around the world.

P: Could you show the viewers the signs that you hung on the fence? (คุณช่วยโชว์ให้ผู้ชมดูป้ายที่คุณแขวนไว้ที่รั้วหน่อยได้ไหม)

J: Sun time is fun time.  This is a "Clothing Optional" place.  You can be dressed or nude.  It's up to you. (เวลาที่อยู่กลางแดดก็เป็นเวลาแห่งความสนุก และนี่คือสถานที่ที่ได้ชื่อว่า “จะใส่เสื้อผ้าหรือไม่ใส่ก็ได้ – ตามใจคุณ” คุณสามารถจะสวมเสื้อผ้าหรือจะเปลือยก็ได้ ตามใจคุณ)

P: Are you serious? (คุณพูดจริงหรือเปล่าเนี่ย)

J: I am serious.  There is no dress code.  I believe that it is important for my guests to have the freedom to do whatever they want back here.

And the place is nice and private.  So, people are free to enjoy whatever lifestyle they like.

P: Thank you very much, Jim, for showing us your lovely swimming pool.  I had a swim last night. (ขอบคุณมากๆเลยครับจิมที่พาพวกเรามาดูสระว่ายน้ำที่น่ารักของคุณ เมื่อคืนนี้ผมก็ว่ายน้ำในนี้ด้วย)

Jim: Okay, let's dive in. (โอเค งั้นก็มาดำน้ำกันเลย)
